Study Day, Catholic University Leuven Bisschoppensynode 2015: Inzichten vanuit de enquêtes over huwelijk, gezin en geloof in kerkelijk Vlaanderen (in Dutch) (A Growing Gap? Catholic Pastoral Workers and Volunteers' Perceptions of Family Life and Church Teaching in Flanders) Parallel to the Vatican questionnaire, Thomas Knieps and a team of researchers from the Theology Faculty of Leuven carried out an online survey in which they interrogated people involved in pastoral services and faith communication in the Flemish Church about themes such as contraception, divorce, remarriage, cohabitation and homosexual relationships. The results of this enquiry were presented and discussed during this Study Day. In het najaar van 2013 heeft Paus Franciscus een Bisschoppensynode afgekondigd die zich van 5 tot 19 oktober 2014 zal buigen over Pastorale uitdagingen voor het gezin in het kader van de evangelisatie. Met het oog daarop heeft het secretariaat van de Bisschoppensynode een open vragenlijst opgesteld die naar alle lokale kerken werd verstuurd met de vraag om een brede consultatie over het gezin door te voeren. Deze Vaticaanse vragenlijst werd door de Bisschoppen in België verspreid en tussen 15 november en 15 december 2013 door 1589 individuele personen of groepen ingevuld (waarvan 306 in Vlaanderen). Parallel met deze vragenlijst heeft de Faculteit Theologie en Religiewetenschappen een bijkomende, kwantitatieve en meer gerichte enquête opgesteld die tussen 15 december 2013 en 8 januari 2014 volledig werd ingevuld door 1853 respondenten in Vlaanderen die professioneel of vrijwillig betrokken zijn bij pastoraat en geloofscommunicatie. De voornaamste resultaten van dit onderzoek zullen op deze studiedag voorgesteld en ter discussie worden gesteld. Hoe denken kerkbetrokken Vlamingen over echtgescheidenen die hertrouwen? Wat vinden ze van de kerkelijke leer over homoseksuele relaties en het homohuwelijk? Hoe staan ze ten opzichte van ongehuwd samenwonen en het gebruik van voorbehoedsmiddelen? Study Day, St. Benet's College, Oxford The Christian Vocation of the Laity Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer gave a lecture on "The Domestic Church in Marriage and Family Life", presenting some ideas about the way in which our homes can become a solid school of domestic companionship for a reliable and sound fundament which ultimately helps to build up a better society. The family is a domestic church with two vocations: personal and social. Among the tasks that apply to the family are to guard, reveal and communicate love; to serve life (that is, both nurturing children and bringing life to the world); to be open to other families, especially the poor and needy; to pray, ritualize, and to serve the broader community".

Study Day, LUMSA University, Rome Women of Faith and the Family: Between Tradition and Modernity Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer-Werhahn was invited to give a lecture at the LUMSA University in Rome at an interreligious seminar on "Women of Faith and the Family: Between Tradition and Modernity". Six women from different religions dialogued about issues such as the overlap between Jewish, Christian and Muslim women’s understanding of equality in the family; the unique contribution of women of faith to the changing spousal relationship models; religious and political influences on gender relations in the family; the passing-on of the faith to the new generations etc. The abstract of this study day, together with the papers, was sent to the office of Cardinal Baldisseri.

Panel Dialogue, Lay Center at Foyer Unitas, Rome A Dialogue with John L. Allen Jr, Associate Editor, The Boston Globe and Crux INTAMS brought together a panel of four theologians to dialogue with John L. Allen on "Marriage and the Family Today: Pastoral Challenges and Hopes in Light of the Extraordinary Synod on the Family". The panel was composed of Philippe Bordeyne, rector at the Institut Catholique de Paris, Martin M. Lintner, OSM, moral theologian at the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Brixen, Thomas Knieps and Aldegonde Brenninkmeijer-Werhahn. They offered some thought provoking theological reflections on the theme of marriage and the family today.

Book launch, Lay Center at Foyer Unitas, Rome Post-Synod Launch of the INTAMS book A Cuore Aperto On the heels of the Extraordinary Synod on the Family, took place the official launch of the Italian edition of the INTAMS book A cuore aperto, which was first published in German in 2012, and in English in 2013. More than 50 people attended the launch, hosted by The Lay Centre at Foyer Unitas in Rome. The final comments were a calling for further reflection on lay spirituality, and a need to discover the spirituality of the home in order to understand the “domestic church” as more than just the family incorporating aspects of monastic life. Seminar, Catholic University Leuven Married Catholic Priests: Perspectivs on Priestly and Marital Spirituality The presence of married priests in the eastern rites of the Catholic Church, and, more recently, the establishment of the personal ordinariate for former Anglicans have raised again the question of whether the Roman Catholic Church might alter its traditional discipline of celibacy for the clergy. One question that has rarely been treated in depth is how the spirituality of Christian marriage and the spirituality of ordained priestly ministry might be lived out together in their fullness. The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars and practitioners to discuss these issues from various standpoints: historical, theological, and pastoral. Summary.
