Theme of the Study Day:
The John Paul II Pontifical Theological Institute for Marriage and Family Sciences (Rome) and the International Academy for Marital Spirituality - INTAMS (Brussels/Leuven) jointly organize an international Study Day on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Amoris laetitia and the 60th anniversary of Gaudium et spes, on Tuesday, 12 May, in Rome. This joint Study Day aims to consider the theology of marriage and family, from theological and canonical perspectives, on the basis of these two magisterial documents.
The John Paul II Institute and INTAMS have developed an academic collaboration in recent years, and their respective inputs will shape the Study Day through dialogue. Both voices have been studying and researching marriage and family for decades, each from their specific perspective, expertise, and mission.
In the morning session, the John Paul II Institute will present a special issue of its international academic journal Anthropotes on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of Amoris laetitia, in the context of the reception of Gaudium et spes. This issue will contain contributions by authors belonging to the Institute’s international academic network.
INTAMS, on the other hand, will present a special report entitled The Theology of Marriage after Vatican II: Theological and Canonical Perspectives. This report is the result of a six-year research project in theology and canon law, exploring shared perspectives on marriage in the light of the Second Vatican Council.
The afternoon session will further deepen the dialogue between the two institutes, as two academics from each organization will offer comments on each other’s document. The program provides ample time for exchange and discussion with the audience.
The Study Day will be enriched by the presence of Mgr. Armando Matteo, Secretary of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, who will deliver the introductory address.
